By Ian Dunstan, Evening Mail, 30/08/2010

A band is preparing for the performance of a lifetime – on TV.

Dalton drumming group Boom Dang will perform in front of millions of viewers at this year's National Lottery Awards.

The awards for part of the star studded gala event which will be hosted by John Barrowman and broadcast live on BBC One on September 4.

The event will feature a special performance from lottery funded groups including Boom Dang.

The eight-strong group, made up of performers from Barrow and Dalton, will travel to London on Wednesday ahead of Saturday's big show.

The group has been playing together for 10 years using their own unique drums.

Therese Johnston, Musical Director for Boom Dang said:  “We're all really excited.  We've just had our first rehearsal up in Glasgow at the BBC Studios  working with a musical director and choreographer.  The musical director has written a piece that encompasses 10 different acts.  It almost has threads of James Bond.  It's very dramatic”.

Asked about the effect the cameras will have on their performance, she added:  “I think it will add to it.  All our performances are live anyway and we are used to playing in front of big audiences.  The nerves will be there but very good, nice nerves.  We've done really nice gigs but this is a really nice one.  It's made us really raise our game.  We can't mess up.  We've got to really know what we're doing as the cameras are on us”.
