Mail's Help Is Bang On For Drum Group Evening Mail, 08/11/2010 A Furness drumming group has received a funding boost from the Evening Mail. The Dalton based Boom Dang Foundation applied for funding from the North-West Evening Mail Charitable Trust, to help pay for its summer activities. The £200 donated by the Evening Mail helped fund a number of projects run by the foundation between March and October this year, including weekly rehearsals and summer tours for its existing bands, Boom Dang and Ting Tang, a school recruitment drive which resulted in two new bands. The launch of the new groups comes as part of a successful year for the Foundation. In September, Boom Dang performed live on BBC One on the National Lottery Awards Show. Therese Johnston, musical director of The Boom Dang Foundation, says the donation is a sign of businesses recognising the group's successes. She said “This is the first year we've ever had contributions from local people and to me, it signifies that there is a dedication to us from the local community. I think it is great that non-profit organisations like us are supported by local business. That is how communities are built, and that is what Boom Dang is about – that real community feel”.
